Investment-Worthy Furniture

Buying and refinishing a classic piece of furniture by a known designer is not only an exciting process–it’s also a good investment. Designer pieces–think Eames, Knoll, or van der Rohe–retain their value.

The above sofa is part of Harvey Probber’s Nuclear Sert collection from 1946. Notice how the table sleekly fits alongside the back of the sofa. This is functional elegance.

An unfinished vintage Harvey Prober of this size starts at $20K on sites like 1st Dibs.

Above is a Probber sectional my friend Katherine from A. Mano in Brooklyn brought to me to refinish. She got a great deal on it because she bought it from an estate sale.

We used a combination of a Knoll textured weave and a
solid wool from Kravet for the base.

The owners of this sofa are delighted to have such a distinct and historic piece in their home. They’re also confident that it’s a sound long-term investment.
